3 Tips For Placing Your Piano In Your Home

A piano is a huge investment. It's a large instrument that costs a great deal both to acquire and to install in your home. As a result, you want to make sure that you take care of it and make sure that it stays functional for as long as possible. A properly maintained piano can last for decades, even for centuries. A piano that is not properly maintained can last as little as five years. In order to get the most of your piano, follow these placement tips.

1. Keep it Away From Windows and Doors

The first step is to keep your piano away from windows and doors, especially those that are used on a regular basis. The reason for this is because your piano is made out of wood. As a result, it is extremely prone to expanding and contracting with major temperature changes. These contractions and expansions will cause the wood on the piano to warp. If it happens too many times, the piano will become unusable, even if it is tuned frequently by a company like Cannon Pianos. To minimize the likelihood of your piano falling apart, keep it away from any areas where the temperature could suddenly change, including doors and windows.

2. Keep it Away From Heating Vents

Another problem is that the wood that makes up your piano could dry out, become brittle, and start to crack. If you keep it in your home, there is little chance of this occurring unless you put your piano in front of a heating vent. The hot air from this vent is extremely dry and will suck out all of the moisture from your piano. To keep your piano out of danger, make sure that it is situated away from any heating vents.

Air conditioning vents, which are often the same vents as the heating vents, will also cause your piano to dry out, but not as quickly. Keep it away from these as well.

3. Keep it Out of Direct Sunlight

Finally, try to place your piano in a room where it will never receive direct sunlight. The UV rays from the sun will damage the wood and cause it to fade, as well as dry it out. This can cause the piano to look less aesthetically appealing, as well as reduce its ability to play in tune.
